What are Play Boosters?
Play Boosters are the best that draft and set boosters have to offer, combined into one perfect product, suitable for both the player of limited Magic such as booster draft and sealed deck and the avid collector who likes to open booster packs.
Previously you had the choice between draft, set or collector boosters to collect your new cards. Collector boosters remain unchanged and are still the go-to booster for special foils, special borders and exclusives. Draft and set boosters have been replaced by play boosters. Play boosters have been specially developed with booster draft and sealed deck in mind, but ripping boosters also remains exciting until the last card thanks to the increased chance of showcase cards and rares or mythic rares!
Enjoy the best of both worlds with Play Boosters!
Composition of Play Boosterbox
A Booster Box contains 36 play boosters. A play booster contains 15 Magic: the Gathering cards from Outlaws of Thunder Junction. The composition of a play booster looks like this:
- 1 to 5 rares or mythic rares.
- 5 to 8 commons.
- 3 to 6 uncommons.
- 1 basic land.
- Always one foil card.
- 1 art card, token or advertising card.
In a play booster you always get at least one rare and always one foil card. Furthermore, in one in seven boosters you will not find rare but a mythic rare! In one in eight boosters you will find a card from The List* or a Special Guest instead of a common. In addition, play boosters contain two wildcard slots, one foil and one non-foil. Cards in the wildcard slot can have any rarity, from common to mythic rare.
The Big Score
The criminals at Thunder Junction have one common goal; Crack the biggest safe and steal the loot! The cards from this vault, or "The Big Score", are all brand new mythic rares and also have their own showcase variant, the Vault Frame. Will you be able to get to these riches sooner by pulling them out of your booster than these criminals? If so, use these powerful cards to upgrade all your decks, from Standard to Commander!
The List
The List is a specially selected list of 40 cards from the history of Magic: the Gathering. Cards from The List are always reprints of existing cards without new art that fit thematically well with the set in which they appear. The rarity of a The List card ranges from common to mythic rare.
The Outlaws of Thunder Junction Special Guests
Specials guests are special reprints of powerful cards with brand new borderless art. In every booster you have the chance to find a special guest card. These reprints are powerful, sought-after cards or the cards fit perfectly thematically with the set they are in.
